Well learning any new language is hard at first, some people can just pick it up easy, I"ve seen some people only learn it for a year and they can pretty much speak it fluently. While others have been here for 10 years and can only say hello and thank you

Agreed. Every situation and person takes in language differently.

I`m learning Thai about 2 months and next month I go to Thailand to train my language a little. I`m trying to listen, read and learn everyday as for European it is very hard to learn alphabet and tones.
And I`m lucky as I have my privat Thai teacher.
mai pen rai ;)

I think listening to someone speak is hard, because I hear words I have never heard of before. But I am getting better as I go to AUA in Bangkok and I listen to conversations 3 hours a day. But it can get boring

Just the tones is what makes it hard otherwise it's easy. I suggest you just forget the tones as you build your vocabulary the tones come naturally over time.

Thai language omits the english "r" sound right. My Muay Thai instructor would always say "do twipple kick". He didn't sound very intimidating but he would be the last person I would want to anger. Seems like the "k" sound is also used frequently.

Yes, I think Thai is very hard ...even among Thai people though. Nowadays I hardly hear Thai people say "R" sound accurately because they talk so fast that they ignore using the right sound.
