I want to know how much money would be needed to retire in Thailand.
I don't live a expensive life, I am simple and don't drink much.

How much would you need to survive every month in Thailand? Basic aircon room in Phuket or Hua Hin?

Working as an English teacher, could I live a comfortable life in Thailand?

40,000 baht per month would be a decent retirement.
Nothing flash, just a simple life.

I agree 40k would be OK but you will need more for Phuket.
Also can you live on thai food ?
If you need farang food then that will add to your budget.

Food choice will make a huge difference in budget. If you like Thai food and can have it nearly everyday then you will save a lot of money. If you hate Thai food then expenses go up.
40,000 in Bangkok is a livable wage in Bangkok. Go for Hua Hin over Phuket, it is much better and is cheaper.

Working with 40,000/month is ok, retired with 40,000/month is not. When at work you can't spend sheet but if you stay at home all day you will spend sheet.
