Toilet brush in buttock kills mother
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 » 05:44pm

A 35-year-old woman in England has died after doctors failed to see a 15cm-long toilet brush handle embedded in her buttock.

An investigation into the death of Cindy Corton was told she was left with the injury after a drunken fall in a friend's bathroom in 2005.

The Sun reports that medics failed to see the brush, even after X-rays.

The young mother was in constant pain for two years before she convinced doctors that the thin plastic handle had become stuck in her bottom.

By then, the operation to remove it had become a lot more complex, because the handle had become embedded in her pelvis.

After two unsuccessful operations in 2007, she chose to go under the knife again, despite being told it could prove to be fatal.

The mother-of-one was in surgery for 10 hours, but died from massive blood loss.

Doctors who first saw her at Lincoln County Hospital and Grantham hospital, both in central England, were slammed for 'serious errors'.

Mrs Corton's 61-year-old husband, Peter, is taking legal action against United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.
