Today we went to travelex and cashed $100 aud which gave us 2800 Baht will the rest of the "budget" when we get over there... :whistling: Looks like its right of the printer the notes are soooooooooooo crisp :laugh_mini:

Anyways after a shit 3 weeks of drama dealing with my 90 yr old nan (dementia, falls etc) and my dad finally getting guardianship over her & she is now inline for "high care" and awaiting placement to somewhere suitable,

I am finally starting to get a bit more excited about our trip. Not long to go now and hubby will get his first ever plane flight :D
Thanks for your response :)

You would of got 29470 Baht at the bank here today. I am surprised Travelex was even that close. They used to be 2 or 3 baht lower than Thai Banks.
Don't change any more money in Australia, wait until you get here.
Only 13 days, you will have a great time.

With regard to exchanging money I have a few questions please...Will I need any THB on arrival at the airport?

When I arrive in Thai it will be a weekend..are the banks open on a weekend?

I have prepaid transfers so don't need any money for that.

I read somewhere that its easier to exchange US dollars than Aust dollars, is this true?

Is it better to have travellers cheques to cash than aust dollars?

Thank you

Carol

The money exchange is open 7 days a week at the airport, better to change there.
http://www.superrich...om/exchange.asp is the best place in Thailand and they even give you a better rate if you have 100 dollar bills.
But this is where the red shirts are too, but the red shirts will not attack you unless you wearing green camouflage.

I went to Travelex as they dont charge an extra fee like the banks over here charged..... There are heaps of conversion sites out there ie XE.com and the one above but I cant find anywhere over here that gives out those rates quoted......

BTW I know its easier to exchange over there something we will be doing to get more Baht then again in reverse to get our Aussie $$ back if any is left over lol. I am not fond of using ATM's at airports etc which also charge fees so I cashed a small amount so that we will have something in case it was needed & I dont like arriving in another country just carrying AUD. Saturday morning when we will go out and sus whats around etc and cash more.
Thanks for your response :)

Diddles,
Are you not scared to go to Thailand? If you are, I can take your ticket off you and make sure you are safe in Australia :)

I think you may of picked a great time to go to Phuket.
The tourist numbers are down, cheap hotels around, tours are discounted, bargining power will be better and less tourists.

Scared? In any given day, I'd be more fearful for myself in Aussie {or anywhere, for that mater}.

Alonzo, will be there in June/July - Bangkok (hopefully) for a few day and then Chiang Mai for 14 days.

I will be having lasik eye surgery at Bumrungrad International Hospital, so will not be venturing too far from the villa I am staying at or the hospital.
