I was reading up about foreigners getting or applying for citizenship in Thailand, does anyone actually know anyone who has one?
Apparently if you get the citizenship, you still need a work permit to work.
Does anyone see any reason to get this? If so, what benefits comes with it?

I think you need a huge pile of paperwork and it costs about 300,000 baht to apply for it. Seems useless to me, I doubt you can even buy land or have any benefits. But I dont really know?

Having Thai citizenship means no more work permit problems, no more visa runs, you're allowed to buy property in Thailand, own any business and no job is closed to you. Getting Thai citizenship however is a complicated procedure that takes between 3-5 years to actually get.

Citizenship is almost impossible to get. However, permanent residency is doable. It does take a lot of years though and you might have to pay a number of extra fees. Most people I know who have lived here for years, never bother to go through all the hassle of permanent residency. I think you have to have a certain amount of money in a Thai bank and have to have lived here for a number of years. You might want to get help from a lawyer to prepare the paper work, but I think that is about all they can do.
