Hello forum,

I have seen many Thai people in Bangkok wearing long pants and jackets in really hot weather. Sometimes it is 40 degrees and you will still see some people wearing jackets.

How can they do this, are they just used to it? I would collapse if I got too hot :man_in_love:

I think it is actually cooler to wear loose, fully covering clothing if you are in direct sunlight

Yes. Actually, it is. As for Thais covering themselves up in the heat - this has most to do with protecting their skin {from turning more than they would like}. As you already know, these practices mostly apply to females.

I wear a singlet to show off my muscles. The ladies love them.

Seems like your trying to make up for a lack of something else. :buba_phone:

You won't need a cardigan this time of year.
The sun can be very strong this time of year.
If you aren't used to it then take precautions

Just a note in passing...I've come across a collection of 1890-1910 photos depicting British expat residents in Siam. Quite the hoot, actually! As you'd expect to find the local 'natives' dressed appropriately in sarong, loose tops, and flip-flops {of sorts} - the proper Victorian insisted to encase themselves in Western/Victorian attire of the day. Wonder as they extremely uncomfortable. Mad dogs and Englishmen.... :biggrin_mini2:

I did see many guys wearing ski masks in Phuket working on a building. I sweat wearing shorts and a singlet, I would die if I covered up in Thailand.

Also seen the muslim females covered head to toe, sure must be uncomfortable in that.

Yet, one will still find field workers and labourers of sort, wrapped to the gills - even this time of year.
