Much press space is dedicated to so-called attractions with over priced admission for foreigners! I boycott all of those and have since long dedicated a part of my personal research to real attractions and opportunities, which are almost unheard of in the media.
This here is one of them, I enjoyed many times over in the past:

Especially, when Greater Bangkok experiences heat-waves, the near mountains of Nakhon Nayok offer refreshing activities near the mountains, where you can swim in natural waterfalls without paying rip-off fees, climb mountains over 1000m in height or enjoy some hours on a creek called river in a kayak

350 Baht for boat, gear and drop-off trip for a person seems very affordable - if you compare this to the rip-off charges of 200 or 400 baht just to be allowed to step into the "attraction" elsewhere :speak_cool: .
From my home in the neighbor province in Pathum Thani, the ride to get there was less than an hour on my old Yamaha.

The waters are relatively clean for swimming and originate in Khao Yai National Park.

Tired of concrete and exhaust fumes? Escape to where Thailand is still beautiful:

Thanks for a great, off the beaten path tip, Frank. I'll definitely give it a try on a weekend.

Thanks guys, its actually a great province without the stink of the big city or foreigners in hordes. I call this the "real" Thailand, yet acknowledge that hardly anyone ventures there. The Golf Courses are gorgeous and run at 8 to 12 % of the Green Fees one has to fork over on Samui, Phuket or in other holiday destinations across the Kingdom.

Great for a quick Getaway :speak_cool: They also offer Abseiling on real cliffs further into the mountains and serve the best trout on this side of the Yangtsekiang :speak_cool:
