Phuket is now become more n more of Pattaya alike.

Phuket before become a popular destination:
- Beaches were crystal clear with white sand.
- Friendly local who live simple life doing fishery.

Phuket now:
- Beaches are crowded (with no lifeguards!).
- More rubbish.
- More red light biz; pubs, bars, prostitutes, ladyboys etc.
- More expensive charged; taxi, tuk-tuk, song-taew, massage etc.
- More ripping off; souvenir shops, shops along Patong beach, taxi (again) etc.
- Local people are mainly dependent on tourism business.

Pattaya before:

- More rubbish.

Pattaya now:
- Full of Russians
- Less crowd (tourist go somewhere else such as Phuket).
- Quieter red light biz (but still have mafia involved).
- Less prostitutes and ladyboys (they move to work in Phuket).

Contemporary Phuket and Pattaya deserve each other. A plague on both their houses.

I think TAT should continue to promote Phuket and Pattaya as I never go there. I like to go to non touristy places here in Thailand, they are so much better.

Well, TAT keep promoting Phuket as top destination because it is one of the country's biggest $$$ injection in term of tourism although it has poor management. Many hotels and resorts have trespassed the land and authorities have turned blind eye.

North is friendly too but for the friendliest and the honesty, Isan kill them all.
Just can't get why some people from big city or so call "hi-so" looking down to Isan people (they call them "Lao" or "Siew").

Class distinction exist everywhere. It is what it is. Near the Cambodian border, the two very 'Khmer' provinces might almost not consider themselves to be connected with Isaan, even if officially and geographically it is just accepted. Isaan not noy...

Phuket is better because of the beaches. Pattaya is a dump.

Absolutely on the mark! Phuk@ just charges 100% to 500% more for most services and food plus transport and accommodations are worth a few extra dineros too! Exchange rates have a Phuk@ bonus, banking charges are steeper and the lack of competition leaves Phuket amongst the highest priced places for medical services, car services or shopping grounds for electronics or camera equipment :biggrin_mini2:
Any Andaman beach outscores Pattaya Beach 10:1, except for Khao Lak (the beach in Khao Lak town itself!) and parts of Patong

The dirtiest beach in Phuket is cleaner then the fulth in Pattaya.
Last time I swam in Pattaya, it felt like I was swimming in garbage, the condom that floated past me did it for me, never swim in Pattaya again, unless it is a hotel swimming pool.
I have not been to all of Phukets beaches, but Karon and Kata beach was nice.
